Benedict Cumberbatch married Sophie Hunter on Valentine’s Day in a private ceremony on the Isle of Wight. Oh that noise? It is the sound of 'Cumberbitches' across the land weeping.

The couple, who are expecting their first child, wed at St. Peter and St. Paul's Church in Mottistone, on the Isle of Wight, before driving off in a classic Jaguar to a reception at National Trust property, Mottistone Manor.

According to Isle of Wight County Press, ‘The manor is home to the Nicholson family - descendants of the first Lord Mottistone - who are thought to be related to the playwright, actress and singer, Sophie Hunter.’

The wedding was thought to be attended by around 100 guests, including Sherlock’s co-star Martin Freeman, and Tom Hiddlestone. But that is all we really know we’re afraid, because as one National Trust employee put it, the wedding was so secret, ‘not even the gardener knew’. Sherlock levels of stealth.

The couple may be putting their honeymoon on hold mind, as Cumberbatch is expected at the Oscars next weekend, where he is nominated for his role in the Imitation Game.

'She's just really cool,' speaking of his new fiancée back in November, Cumberbatch told People, 'She's proud of my work, she's proud of me, and she loves me. That's the bottom line, isn't it? That's one of the reasons it's a good fit. It could be a really difficult thing, but she's just so in command of it.'

And look at that, now we're weeping too.
