David Beckham’s style has long been a headline grabber - the sarong of 1998, the his-and-hers suits he regularly rocks with wife Victoria.

But according the male style icon, his modern wardrobe is curated entirely by him alone.

Talking to Yahoo Style ahead of the launch of his H&M Modern Essentials campaign, David revealed that, contrary to popular belief, there’s no army of stylists and personal shoppers behind his day-to-day looks.

In fact, not even fashion designer Victoria tells him what to wear. At least, not any more - see the pink bra/suit jacket story for the background on that.

“I don’t get told what to wear. I wear what I feel comfortable in and my style is always made up of items I have personally selected,” he told the style site.

“I’m always looking for the sort of casual pieces that make you feel good as soon as you put them on.”

In his new video ad for H&M, both men and women are seen donning the pieces David has selected for the Modern Essentials collection. An idea that he loves about the potentially unisex line.

“I love to see women wearing menswear, even if it is just worn casually,” he says, having previously revealed that the outfit he loves to see Victoria wearing most, is a pair of Stan Smith trainers and jeans.
