You don't need us to tell you that a 4pm Diet Coke habit isn't the best idea (hello, artificial sweeteners and caffeine overload). But, in summer, there's no shortage of longing for the a perfectly cold can of something fizzy to perk your tired afternoon.

Which means you need an alternative. With artificial stuff out and the weather too warm for peppermint tea, it's time to start making your water a little more exciting.

Here's some of our favourite ideas.

1 | Get zesty

Ice cubes, a few rounds of lemon and lime and some mint leaves (clap them in your hands to release the aromatic oils) and job done. Cool jars optional.

2 | Muddle in some herbs

Frozen blackberries + sage = sharp, sweet bliss. The flavour of the herb is milder than you would think, giving a slight earthy twang.

3 | New-gen orange juice

All the orange-y taste, a whole lot less of the sugar. Add fruit slices to carbonated water and finish with a few sprigs of antioxidant-rich rosemary.
